Microorganisms(fungi)✨ 🦠 Flashcards
Give some examples of fungi that are not microorganisms, give their properties
Not all fungi are microorganisms. Mushrooms and toadstools are a few examples of microorganisms that are large and easy to see.
Explain when mushrooms and toadstools are microorganisms
However, mushrooms and toadstools are only part of the fungus’s body and only grow at certain times of the year. Most of the time the fungus is only a tangle of very thin threads which grow under the ground or inside a dead log and they are so thin that they are difficult to see without a microscope, making them microorganisms.
Explain some types of fungi that do not produce mushrooms or toadstools
There are some kinds of fungi that do not produce mushrooms or toadstools, and they are single-celled, not threads, so they are definitely microorganisms
.
Explain the microorganism yeast
Yeast is also a microscopic fungus. The powdery substance that you sometimes see on the surface of grapes is made up of millions of cells of yeast.
