Muscles! ✨ 🍗 💪 Flashcards
What are muscles?
Muscles are tissue which move bones and joints, since they cannot move themselves.
What is contraction of muscles?
Muscles are made of specialised cells that can make themselves shorter. This is called contraction.
What are muscles made of?
Muscles are made of specialised cells.
What do muscles use to contract?Where and how do they get this from?
Muscles use energy to contract and like all cells, they get this energy from nutrients, especially glucose. The energy, released from glucose by respiration, is needed more the more your muscles contract.
What are tendons?
Many of your muscles are attached to bones, by tough chords called tendons.
How do muscles and tendons work together to move bones at the joints?
This works because when a muscle contracts, it pulls on the tendon, which pulls on a bone, making the bone move at a joint.
What is the biceps?
The biceps muscle is the biggest muscle in thee arm.
Why is biceps an unusual word?
Because it ends in a s even though it is singular(One biceps, Two biceps)
Why is the muscle called the biceps?
Bi- means two. This muscle is called the biceps muscle because it has two tendons attached to the scapula.
What is the triceps?
The triceps muscle is a longer, thinner muscle on the back of the humerus .
Why is the muscle called the triceps?
Tri- means three. This muscle is called the triceps muscle because it has three tendons attached to the bones.
