Current! Flashcards
When you close the switch, what happens?
When you close the switch, the lamp lights.
What is a cell?
A cell stores chemical energy that can be changed to electrical energy in a circuit.
What is a battery?
A battery contains 2 or more cells joined together.
What does a cell have?
A cell has two connections, called terminals with a +(positive) on the right and a -(negative) on the left.
What is electric circuit?
Electrical circuit is the path which electric current takes.
What happens when electrons move more quickly?
When electrons move more quickly, current increases.
What happens when electrons move more slowly?
When electrons move more slowly, current decreases.
What does an ammeter do?
An ammeter is used to measure the current in a circuit.
What is current measured in(and what is the symbol)?
Current is measured in Amps. Amps have the symbol A.
What are the two terminals of an ammeter?
Ammeters have two terminals , for wires to be attached. One is red and one is black.
What must the red terminal of an ammeter be connected to?
In a circuit, the red terminal of an ammeter must be connected, either directly or through other components, to the positive terminal of the power supply.
How are ammeters always connected in a circuit?
Ammeters are always connected in series with other components in a circuit. If the components are connected in series, they are all connected end-to-end, one after another, and their are no branches in the circuit.
