SHOULDER MUSCLES Flashcards
Adduct and medially rotate arm
Pectoralis Major m.
Stabilize scapula against thoracic wall
-Depress and rotate scapula
Pull shoulder forward
Pectoralis Minor m.
Principle abductor of arm 0-90°
- Anterior part: flexes/medially rotates
- Middle part: abducts
- Posterior part: extends/laterally rotates
Deltoid m.
Abduct arm 0-90°
Fix humeral head in glenoid fossa
Supraspinatus m.
Laterally rotate humerus
Holds humeral head in glenoid
cavity (avoids dislocation)
Infraspinatus m.
Medially rotate
Adducts arm 90-0°
Subscapularis m.
Laterally rotates arm
Holds humeral head in glenoid fossa
Teres Minor m.
Adduct/medially rotate arm
Teres Major m.
rotates scapula
Keep scapula fixed against rib cage
Raise ribs when scapula is fixed
-When punching or reaching anteriorly
abducts arm 90-180°
Serratus Anterior m.
Enables humeral rotation
Strength and muscular endurance
Maintains/stabilizes humeral head
Rotator Cuff
