Shock Flashcards
What are the four types of shock?
Cardiogenic - MI, arrythmia
Obstructive - tamponade, PE, pericarditis
Distributive - sepsis
Hypovolemic - vomitting or burns
What is shock?
Inadequate tissue perfusion due to the 4 causes
What is crystalloid?
Small molecules dissolved in water
What is colloid?
Large insoluble molecules
What types of fluid replacement is there?
Crystalloid
Colloid
Blood productions
When is colloid used?
Severe haemorrhage
What is crystalloid used for?
Electrolyte disturbances and shock
What is a problem with 0.9% NaCl
Hyperchloremic acidosis
What are the main blood products?
Red blood cells
Platelets
FFP
Cryoprecipitate with fibrinogen
What products are in red blood cells? (SAGM)
Saline
Adenine
Glucose
Mannitol
Can you use hydroxyethyl starch (colloid)?
Best to avoid due to kidney damage, can be used in acute blood loss, but definitely not in burns or sepsis
