Pulsus paradoxus
Pulsus paradoxus, also paradoxic pulse or paradoxical pulse, is an abnormally large decrease in stroke volume, systolic blood pressure and pulse wave amplitude during inspiration.
What is paradoxical embolism?
Paradoxical embolism is an uncommon cause for acute arterial occlusion. Paradoxical Embolism (PDE) occurs when a thrombus crosses an intracardiac defect into the systemic circulation. Patients may present with symptoms based on the site of the resultant embolization. These sites can include the brain, heart, gastrointestinal tract, or extremities.
Fulminant
Severe and sudden in onset
Pre-test probability
. Pretest probability is the chance that the patient has the disease, estimated before the test result is known. For example left sided pain for heart disease will have a higher pre-test probability than tiredness/ fatigue for lupus.
Rhinorhea
Runny but clear nose
Dysphagia
Difficulty swallowing
Odynophagia
Pain on swallowing
Biphasic reaction
A biphasic reaction is the recurrence of anaphylaxis symptoms within 72 hours of the initial anaphylactic event, without re-exposure to the trigger. Biphasic reactions are uncommon and unpredictable. Prior studies suggest that wheezing and delayed treatment with epinephrine may be associated risk factors.
