Seed Dispersal Flashcards
What is Seed Dispersal?
It moves seeds away from the parent to reduce competition for light, water and soil nutrients between the parent and offspring plants.
What is Animal Internal?
It is when seeds that are tough enough to resist digestion as they pass through the guts of animals to be ‘planted’ in the animals droppings later. The animal is encouraged to eat them as they are covered in a yummy fruit.
What is Animal External?
These seeds are covered in a hooked fruit that attaches to the fur of an animal. When the animal scratches to remove it the seeds fall out.
What is Wind Dispersal?
These seeds are surrounded by a lightweight feathery or papery fruit that easily catches the wing and moves the seed from one place to another.
