Q
  • What is the CNS composed of?
  • Give 2 roles of the CNS
A

All the neurons that make up the brain and spinal cord.

  • Processing sensory information (CNS receives electrical impulses from the sensory neurons connected to it)
  • Coordinates the body’s response. Transmits electrical impulses, along motor neurons, to glands and muscles.

Q

List and Describe the 3 main components of the brain

A
  1. Cerebrum - Controls conscious thoughts, reasoning, memory and emotions
  2. Cerebellum - Controls balance and coordinated movement
  3. Medulla - Contains groups of neurons that transmit electrical impulses to the heart and lungs to control breathing rate and heart rate
