What is the role of the Style?
It is an elongated structure that holds the stigma in the correct position for pollination to occur.
What is the role of the Ovary?
It is a flask-like structure that holds the ovules.
What is the role of the Ovule?
It is the plant equivalent of an egg These contain the female gametes.
What is the role of the Stamen?
It is the male part of the flower.
What is the role of the Filament?
It is the long thin structure that holds the anther in the correct position for the release of pollen.
What is the role of the Anther?
It is the pollen producing structure. It either rubs pollen onto an insect or releases it into the air.
What is Pollen?
It is a microscopic dust-like structure. Each one contains male gametes.
What is a Petal?
A protective layer that may be enlarged, colourful and scented in insect pollinated flowers.
Why are petals colourful and scented?
It is to attract insects
What is the role of the Sepal?
A protective layer that protects the flower when it is a flower bud. May be colourful in insect pollinated flowers.
What is the role of the Nectaries?
They produce sugary liquid called nectar in insect pollinated flowers.
