Life on Earth - Abiotic Factors Flashcards
1
Q
Define an abiotic factor
A
- The result of interactions with other non-living organisms
2
Q
List and describe the 4 abiotic factors
A
Light intensity - varies according to latitude, season and shade caused by taller organisms (usually plants) in the locality
pH - Soil pH decides which plants can successfully grow in the area
Moisture and Temperature - vital for deciding the distribution of the major biomes on the planet.
3
Q
How do human actions impact biodiversity?
A
- Affects biotic and abiotc factors
- Habitat destruction, overhunting, overfishing = reduce biodiversity
- Conservation of species = increases biodiversity
