RCS Flashcards
Where are the thermal sleeves located in the RCS?
- Charging to Loops 1 and 4 CLs
- RHR Normal Cooldown lines to Loops 2 and 3 CLs
- Pzr Surge Line – Both Ends
- Pzr Spray Line at Pzr
What are the RCS penetrations below centerline?
- RHR Suction from Loop 2 Hot Leg ***
- Loop flow instruments (High Side Tap)
- Drain Lines
- NR Thot Scoops
- Half Loop level indication connection (NLI-122)
What loops does Pzr spray come from?
- loops 3 and 4 CLs **
What loops have RVLIS penetrations?
- loops 1 and 3 HLs
What loops have Sample penetrations?
- loops 1 and 3 HLs
What loops have WR # RVLIS penetrations?
-loops 1 and 3 HLs
What loops have Mid Loop Level Indicator penetrations? **
- Loops 3 and 4 CL (Intermediate legs) ***
What loop has Pzr Surge line penetration?
- loop 3 HL**
What loop has RHR suction penetration? **
- loop 2 HL ** (Does not extend into Pipe**)
What loop has NLI-122 half loop indicator penetration? **
- loop 2 HL **
What loop has ExLD line penetration?
- loop 4 CL
What loop has Normal Charging penetration?
- loop 4 CL **
What loop has alternate charging penetration?
- loop 1 CL
What loop has normal LD penetration?
- Loop 4 CL (Intermediate Leg)
What is the design basis of the Rx Vessel Head Vent?
- vent a volume of h2 equal to half the volume of the RCS in 1 hr at system design # and temp
- 0.25” orifice prevents leakage > capacity of 1 CCP ***
When is RVLIS for Narrow Range Used?
- No RCPs running **
- Top to bottom of vessel
100% = Full
70% = Top of Hot Leg (N/C)
67% = Top of Fuel
46% = 3.5ft above bottom of fuel
When is RVLIS for Wide Range Used?
- With RCPs running **
- Looks for Void Fraction (50%)
46% w/4 RCPs
32% w/3 RCPs
22% w/2 RCPs
15% w/1 RCPs - If WR shows a higher number than table, void fraction is less than 50% and core would remain covered if RCP(s) were stopped
When is RVLIS for the Upper Range Used?
- All RCPs Off **
- top of Loop 1 HL and top of Rx vessel
100% = Full **
70% = Top of Hot Leg ** - Generally used in EOPs to assess whether a RV head void exists for natural circulation cooldown procedures.
- Fails when RCPs are running
What does the subcooling monitor used to calculate margin to saturation temp?
- Normally selected to display margin to saturation temperature when comparing the hottest CETC to the lower of the 2 RVLIS #s
What does Loose Parts Monitoring system do (DMIMS)?
- Provides early detection of loose parts in the RCS that may occur as a result of material wear, component failure, or outage/maintenance work
- Operating Control Rods will bypass the system (RV head)
Where does DMIMS look for loose parts?
- Both sides SG tube sheet (8)
- Reactor Vessel Head (2)
- Bottom of Core (2)
When do you not use the subcooling monitor?
- Calculation is not accurate at low pressures, so monitor will display OL (out of limits) < 250# and subcooling MUST be manually calculated using a supplement in EOPs
What is the normal Tavg for both units?
- Unit 1: 571ºF
- Unit 2: 574ºF
What is the normal Thot for both units?
- Unit 1: 600ºF
- Unit 2: 607ºF
