Quizlet Corrections Flashcards
What are the hamstring muscles ?
Biceps femoris
Semitendinosus
Semimembranosus
What are the quadriceps muscles ?
Rectus femoris
Vastus lateralis
Vastus intermedius
Vastus medialis
What is systole ?
Contraction phase of the heart: blood is pumped out
Atria systole - blood pumped into ventricles
Ventricular systole - blood pumped into aorta
What is diastole ?
Relaxation phase of the heart: receiving blood
Atrial diastole - blood enters via vena cava
Ventricular diastole - blood entering from atria
How does SV increase during exercise ?
SV dependant on VR
Exercise = VR increase
Walls of heart stretch
More blood enters - SA node stimulated = faster contraction (so HR increases)
Ventricular walls stretch - no blood so more forceful contraction as there is an increased pressure
SV increases
What is the vasometer centre ?
Sympathetic nerve centre that controls Vascular shunt mechanism
What are pre-capillary sphincters ?
Rings of smooth muscle at junction between arterioles and capillaries - dilate and constrict to control blood flow through capillaries.
What is an arteriole ?
Small artery that carries oxygenated blood to muscles and organs.
What is smooth muscle ?
Thin layer of muscle in vein which is a VR mechanism
What is starlings law ?
The more cardiac muscle is stretched the greater the force of contraction
