Motor unit - nervous stimulation Flashcards
What is resting potential ?
The neurone at rest. There is lower charge inside the neurone than outside.
What is action potential ?
The electrical activity carried down the axon.
What is a neurotransmitter ?
Chemical messenger than transmits across synapse and binds with muscle fibres to initiate contraction.
What is Acetyl Choline ?
The neurotransmitter release at the neuromuscular junction that travels across synapse.
What is the All or None law ?
If the action potential threshold is reached all the muscle fibres in the motor unit activate, if not reached none of the motor units activate.
What is the first stage of nervous stimulation ?
Resting potential - Low charge inside neurone, high charge outside neurone.
What is the second stage of nervous stimulation ?
Action potential - threshold reached (charges change) high inside neurone and low outside neurone.
What is the third stage of nervous stimulation ?
Electrical impulse carried down the axon to the neuromuscular junction.
What is the fourth stage of nervous stimulation ?
The neurotransmitter acetyl choline is released at neuromuscular junction and travels across the synapse.
What is the fifth stage of nervous stimulation ?
Acetyl choline received by receptors on motor end plate to initiate e muscular contraction.
