Biomechanis - Technology Flashcards

1
Q

What is limb kinematics ?

A

The study of movements of limbs in space and the time taken to carry out the movements.

It includes the study of gait.

Q

How is limb kinematics carried out ?

A
  • Reflective markers placed on performers bony landmarks.
  • Filmed using video cameras
  • The data is transferred into digital format for analysis.

Q

Positives of using limb kinematics

A
  • Data is immediate and accurate
  • Coaches can use the analysis to make changes to technique.
  • Examines the causes of common injury
  • investigates the impact of equipment on technique.

Q

Negatives of using limb kinematics

A
  • Expensive
  • Lab condition make it hard to carry out some techniques (lack of space / lack of realism)
  • results do not take account of individual differences

Q

How are force plates used ?

A
  • The platform measures the ground reaction the performer generates.
  • This can be vertical or horizontal forces.
  • Data is generated including a force time graph, power and acceleration information.
