Biomechanis - Technology Flashcards
1
Q
What is limb kinematics ?
A
The study of movements of limbs in space and the time taken to carry out the movements.
It includes the study of gait.
2
Q
How is limb kinematics carried out ?
A
- Reflective markers placed on performers bony landmarks.
- Filmed using video cameras
- The data is transferred into digital format for analysis.
3
Q
Positives of using limb kinematics
A
- Data is immediate and accurate
- Coaches can use the analysis to make changes to technique.
- Examines the causes of common injury
- investigates the impact of equipment on technique.
4
Q
Negatives of using limb kinematics
A
- Expensive
- Lab condition make it hard to carry out some techniques (lack of space / lack of realism)
- results do not take account of individual differences
5
Q
What are force plates ?
A
A platform that measures all the forces applied when a performer stands, steps across or jumps on it.
6
Q
How are force plates used ?
A
- The platform measures the ground reaction the performer generates.
- This can be vertical or horizontal forces.
- Data is generated including a force time graph, power and acceleration information.
7
Q
Positives of using force plates
A
- fast and accurate results
- gait analysis, landing and take off used to identify technique and efficiency
- results useful for making development programme
8
Q
Negatives of using force plates
A
- Expensive
- Lab conditions make it difficult to carry out some techniques
