Q

Explain the fast alactacid component of EPOC

A
  • 10% of all EPOC
  • 1-4 tres of oxygen used to complete process
  • Blood and muscle oxygen
1 minute - oxygen reassociates with haemoglobin in blood
2-3. Minutes - myoglobin stores in muscle cells replenished
  • ATP/PC stores
    50% 30 seconds
    100% 3 minutes

Q

Explain the slow alactacid component of EPOC

A
  • begins when exercise ends
  • 5-8 litres of oxygen seed to complete process
  • During the process:
    Lactic acid removed
    Core body temp elevated
    Some glycogen replenished
Decreased ventilation levels to maximise oxygen delivery
Decreased heart rate to maximise oxygen delivery
