quiz 14 (chp. 15 new book) Flashcards
Task-intrinsic feedback
sensory-perceptual feedback
-touch, vision, hearing
Augmented feedback
adding to or enhancing task-intrinsic feedback
-task extrinsic feedback
-external feedback
Knowledge of results (KR)
externally presented info about the outcome of the perfomrance skill
-product
performing a skill or about achieving the goal or the performance
Knowledge of performance (KP)
movement characteristics that led to the performance outcome
-process
Quantitative augmented feedback
Qualitative augmented feedback
Descriptive KP
just informs the person of the error they did
Prescriptive KP
informs the error & adds what needs to be done so they can do it right
the roles in augmented feedback in skill acquisition play two roles in skill learning process… what are they?
- facilitates achievement of the action goal of the skill
- motivates the learner to continue striving toward a goal
why is augmented feedback essential for learning?
-some skill situations do not make critical sensory feedback available to the person (so we need external feedback to help us make corrections)
-there exists the possibility that a person may not have available sensory pathways needed to detect feedback (pathway broken so they need feedback)
-feedback is provided from the sensory system, however, the person cannot use the feedback (need coach or therapist)
what are some reasons augmented feedback may not be needed for skill aquisition?
-some skills provide task intrinsic feedback (they have all they need through touch & things like that)
-a detectable external reference can be observed in motor skills (have all the feedback they need)
-research has shown that augmented feedback can enhance as well as hinder skill development & learning
what are the five issues related to the content of augmented feedback?
- information about errors vs. correct aspects of performance (help a person to not stop doing what they are doing correctly but identify what they are doing incorrectly)
- KR vs KP (
- qualitative vs quantitative information (quantitative is looking at the outcome or the produce of the skill; qualitative is about the form or process)
- augmented feedback based on error size (what level of incorrect/wrong do you allow before intervening)
- erroneous augmented feedback (incorrect feedback)
what are the two types of verbal KP?
- descriptive KP
- prescriptive KP
what are the types of KP?
-verbal KP
- videotape as augmented feedback
-movement kinematics as augmented feedback
-biofeedback as augmented feedback
what is concurrent augmented feedback?
augmented feedback provided while a person is performing a skill
what are thee effects of concurrent augmented feedback on learning?
- negative learning effect
–hinders person from learning the skill or improving their levels of performance - enhances skill learning (positive effect)
—want!
what is terminal augmented feedback?
feedback that is provided after a person has completed the performance of a skill
what are the two intervals of time associated with terminal augmented feedback?
- KR delay interval
- post KR interval
-both require a minimum length of time in which u are going to give the feedback
-Engaging in activity during these intervals can hinder, benefit, or have no effect upon skill learning
what are some techniques that reduce augmented feedback frequency?
- performance based on bandwidths
—how great does the error or incorrect performance have to be for someone to intervene & give feedback - performer selected frequently
—only give feedback when person is requesting it - summary & averaged
augmented feedback
—provide list to a performer in regard to their performance after a predetermined number of practice trials
—helps a person correct their own errors
-don’t want to give feedback on every attempt
what is the purpose of augmented feedback?
have someone provide additional info to the performer to enhance their performance
