Norepinephrine Class
Sympathomimetic, vasopressor
Norepinephrine Action
Acts directly on alpha receptors to cause vasoconstriction, thereby increasing blood pressure, cardiac output, and coronary perfusion
Norepinephrine Indications
Shock with systolic blood pressure less than 70 mm Hg (often first-line drug for sepsis)
Norepinephrine Contraindications
Hypovolemia, Severe Hypoxia, V-Fib, Tachy
Norepinephrine Adult dose
0.5-1 mcg/min, tritate to effect, max dose 30 mcg/min (max 4 mg in 250 mL NaCl or D5W
Norepinephrine Pedi Dose
0.1 mcg/min tritrate to effect; rarely used
Norepinephrine Side Effect
Headache, Nausea, Hypertension, palpations
Norepinephrine Onset
1-3 min
Norepinephrine Duration
Effects cease wihtin 1 minute after infusion is discontinued
