Dopamine Action
Acts directly on the alpha and beta receptors of the sympathetic nervous system to increase inotropy, chronotropy, dromotropy, automaticity, and systemic vascular resistance; causes renal, mesenteric, and coronary artery vasodilation in low doses
Dopamine Indications
- Hemodynamically significant hypotension
- cardiogenic shock or CHF
- distributive shock (anaphylaxis or sepsis)
- symptomatic bradycardia (refractory to first-line medications)
Dopamine Contraindications
- Hypovolemic Shock
- Pheochromocytoma
- Symptomatic Tachydysrhythmias
- V-Fib
Dopamine Adult Dose - Renal perfusion:
0.5–2 mcg/kg/min
Dopamine Adult Dose - Inotropic effects:
2–10 mcg/kg/min
Dopamine Adult Dose - Vasopressor effects:
10–20 mcg/kg/min
Dopamine Pedi Dose - Renal perfusion:
0.5–2 mcg/kg/min

2–10 mcg/kg/min
