Diazepam Class
Benzodiazepine, CNS depressant, Anticonvulsant, Anioxlytic
Diazepam Action
Promotes the effectiveness of GABA = reduces neuro excitability (stops the signals thats sends the seizures)
- relaxes skeletal muscle
- induces amnesia by depressing the CNS
Diazepam Indications
Seizures, psychosis, sedation (RSI, Cardioversion)
Diazepam Contraindications
Hypersensitivity, Hypotension, Shock, Head injury, Sedative/ETOH use
Diazepam Adult dose - Seizures
5-10 mg IV/IM
Diazepam Adult dose - Anxiety
2-5mg IV/IM
Diazepam Adult dose Sedation (pacing)
5-15 mg IV
Diazepam Adult dose - Sedation (RSI, Intubation)
0.1-0.25 mg/kg IV
Diazepam Side effects
Dizziness, drowsiness, Orthostatic Hypotension, Blurred Vision
Diazepam Onset
1-5 min
