Nitro Class
Nitrate, vasodilator
Nitro Action
Relaxes vascular smooth muscle to cause vasodilation while also reducing blood pressure, preload, afterload and myocardial oxygen demand through increased coronary artery perfusion.
Nitro Indications
Cardiac chest pain, acute coronary syndromes (ACS), pulmonary edema associated with CHF, hypertensive emergencies
Nitro Contraindications
Erectile dysfunction drugs <24 hrs, Head Injury, Cerebral hemorrhage, Hypersensitivity, Hypotension <90, Right ventricular infarction
Nitro Adult Dose
SL: 0.4 mg, repeat in 3-5 min PRN, 3 doses max 1.2mg;
TD: 0.5–2 inches paste
IVPB: 10–20 mcg/min titrated to effect
Nitro Side Effects
Diaphoresis, Dizziness, Flushing, Heartburn, Nausea, Orthostatic hypotension, Palpitations, Vomiting
Nitro Onset/Duration:
1-3 min
20-30 min
