Adenosine Class
Antidysrhythmic, endogenous (internal cause or origin) nucleoside (signaling molecules)
Adenosine Action
Decrease electrical conduction through the AV node without causing negative inotropic (force or speed of cardiac muscle) effects
Adenosine Indications
Supraventricular tachycardias (SVT/PSVT)
Adenosine Contraindications
Hypersensitivity, bradycardia, drug induced tachycardia, 2nd or 3rd degree heart block, A-Fib, A-Flutter, V-Tach, WPW with A-Fib/Flutter
Adenosine Onset/Duration
Onset: Immediate
Duration/Half-life: 10 seconds
Adenosine Adult Dose/Route
6 mg 1st dose, 12 mg if needed (both rapid IVP) followed by 20cc flush
Adenosine Pedi Dose/Route
0.1mg/kg (max 6mg) 1st dose, 0.2 mg/kg (max 12 mg) in 1-2 min if needed, IV/IO followed by rapid IVP 5-10 cc saline flush
Adenosine Side Effects
Dizziness, headache, SOB, hypotension, flushing, palpitations, CP, NV
