Atropine Sulfate Flashcards
Atropine Sulfate Class
Anticholinergic, parasympatholytic
Atropine Sulfate Action
Blocks cholinergic receptors, thereby increasing chronotropy and dromotropy (increasing conduction through AV node and blocking vagal tone), causing bronchodilation, reduced respiratory secretions, and decreased GI secretions and motility
Atropine Sulfate Indications
*Symptomatic bradycardia
*Asthma or COPD induced bronchospasm
*Organophosphate or nerve agent poisoning
*Premedication for rapid sequence intubation in pediatric patients with an increased risk of bradycardia
Atropine Sulfate Contraindications
None in emergency setting, Hypothermic pts
