25
Q

What exits the inferior orbital fissure?

A

26
Q

What joins in the pterygoid canal?

A

Greater petrosal nerve and Deep petrosal nerve

27
Q

Describe how parasympathetic fibers can reach the lacrimal gland

A
  • Presynaptic parasympathetic fibers travel on the greater petrosal nerve (CN VII) through the pterygoid canal to synapse at the pterygopalatine ganglion
  • Fibers then jump on the the maxillary nerve
  • Continue down the zygomatic nerve and use a communicating branch to reach the lacrimal nerve (V1)
  • Fibers reach the lacrimal gland
28
Q

What carries post-synaptic sympathetic fibers to the pterygopalatine fossa and do they synapse at the pterygopalatine ganglion?

A

Deep petrosal nerve and nope
