Class:
Competitive narcotic agonist.

Mechanism of Action:
Binds with narcotic receptor sites, displacing narcotics and blocking their effects.

Indications:
To reverse respiratory depression associated with narcotic overdose.

Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity.

Precautions:
Rapid large doses may cause immediate withdrawals in narcotic dependent patients. Try and administer slower to reverse respiratory depression rather than complete reversal.

Side Effects:
N/V, Hyper/Hypotension, dysrhythmias.

Interactions:
No direct drug interactions, only works with opiate overdose.

Dosage:
0.4mg-2.0mg to a max of 10mg.

Routes:
IV/IM/IN/IO/SQ.

Notes:
Short half life, always do a patient assessment!
