Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin)
Class:
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), antipyretic, analgesic
Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin)
Mechanism of Action:
Converted by other enzymes to several other prostaglandin (which are mediators of pain, inflammation and fever) and to thromboxane A2 (stimulates platelet aggregation, leading to formation of blood clots) VERY similar to aspirin.

Indications:
Fever above 101.5

Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity, administration of ibuprofen in the last 6 hours.

Precautions:
Patient taking large amounts should still be evaluated although chance of life threatening overdose is low.

Side Effects:
No acute side effects in normal dosages. Prolonged use may cause GI issues.

Interactions:
Use with other NSAIDS increase his of GI issues.
