Albuterol Sulfate (Ventolin, Preventil) Class:
Sypathomimetic Bronchodilator
Albuterol Sulfate (Ventolin, Preventil) Mechanism of Action:
B2 sympathetic agonist that causes bronchodilation.
Albuterol Sulfate (Ventolin, Preventil) Indications:
Difficulty breathing associated with asthma and COPD.
Albuterol Sulfate (Ventolin, Preventil) Contrindications:
Hypersensitivity/symptomatic tachycardia.
Albuterol Sulfate (Ventolin, Preventil) Precautions:
Causes increase in HR and myocardial oxygen demand. Be cautious in patients with heart disease.
Albuterol Sulfate (Ventolin, Preventil) Side Effects:
Anxiety, Palpations, Chest discomfort, Headache, Sweating, N/V.
Albuterol Sulfate (Ventolin, Preventil) Interactions:
Not used with other beta agonist.
Albuterol Sulfate (Ventolin, Preventil) Dosage:
Small volume/mask nebulizer: 2.5mg in 3ml over 5-15 minutes.
Pedi dose: 0.15mg/kg diluted in 3 ml normal saline (NS)

Inhalation
Albuterol Sulfate (Ventolin, Preventil) Notes:
Small volume and mask nebs should be used with O2 set at 6-8 lpm.
Breath slowly and hold in as long as possible.
Albuterol Sulfate (Ventolin, Preventil) NH Notes:
Repeated adult dose (up to 3) of a DuoNeb, or Albuterol, 5 minutes as needed.

Myth - Will cause flash pulmonary edema in CHF patients.
