Musculoskeletal System Flashcards
Bone structure?
Cortical bone strong dense
And trabecular bone spongy lightweight porous
Then marrow cavity
What makes bone?
Osteoblasts form bone (all BuiLders)
(Become osteocytes when trapped by new bone)
Found in the surface of bone and marrow cavity
Secretes proteinous organic matrix
Matrix solidifies when phosphatase is secreted
What breaks down bone?
Osteoclasts (bone CLearance)
Derived from blood cell line and formed on fusion of precursor cells
Bone resorption
Osteoclasts mediated process
-H ions proteases collagenases releases
Required for remodelling radial growth maintaining vascularity and more
How do muscles attach to bone?
Indirect attachment most common where muscle tendon attaches to periosteum of bone
Direct attachment is tendon fuses to bone
Muscles operate in pairs
Agonist and antagonist
What are the three types of muscle movement
Reflex
Rhythmic (like walking)
Voluntary (playing piano)
