Muscles & Movement Flashcards
Types of joints ?
1-Fibrous Joints (ex:sutures)
2- Cartilaginous Joints
3-Synovial Joints
Describe movement of fibrous joints
bones linked by fibrous connective tissue, e.g. sutures.
Little or no movement.
Describe movement of Cartillagenous joints
bones linked by hyaline carilage or fibrocartilage,
e.g. pubic symphysis.
Elasticity of cartilage allows some movement.
Describe movement of Synovial joints
joints enclosed by a fluid-filled, synovial capsule.
Allow considerable movement between the articulating bones.
Types of Synovial Joints ?
1-Plane Joint ,e.g. Intervertebral
2- Saddle Joint ,e.g. Carpometacarpal pollicis
3- Hinge Joint , e.g. elbow
4- Pivot , e.g. Proximal radioulnar
5- Ball and Socket , e.g. Humerus (shoulder)
6- Ellipsoid , e.g. Atlantooccipital

Types of Movements ?
A. Angular Movements
B. Circular Movements
Mention all Angular Movements
- Flexion and Extension
- Abduction and Adduction
How is Flexion and Extension. Defined for the foot ?
Both directions are classed as flexion :
-Towards the plantar surface is plantar flexion
-Towards the shin is dorsiflexion
Mention all types of circular movements ?
- Rotation
- Pronation and Supination
- Circumduction
