MMB [043] Thigh Flashcards
The gap between 2 insertions of the Adductor Magnus muscle is forms the…
adductor hiatus
Function of adductor hiatus ?
allows the femoral vessels to pass from the adductor canal downwards into the popliteal fossa.
Nerve supply of Adductor Magnus muscle ?
Pubic (adductor) part: obturator nerve
Ischial (hamstring) part: sciatic nerve
Action of Adductor Magnus ?
Pubic part: adduction (like other adductor muscles).
Ischial part: extension of the hip joint (like hamstring muscles).
Define the ADDUCTOR CANAL
It is an intermuscular tunnel situated on the medial aspect of the middle 1/3 of the thigh under cover of the sartorius muscle.
Beggining and ending of ADDUCTOR CANAL ?
It begins at the apex of the femoral triangle and ends at the opening in the adductor magnus (adductor hiatus).
Adductor canal
Hamstrings innervation ?
Tibial part of Sciatic nerve
Define the Popliteal fossa ?
it is a diamond shaped intermuscular space present behind the knee joint.
Boundaries of the Popliteal fossa ?
• Boundaries:
- Above and lateral: biceps femoris.
- Above and medial: Semitendinosus and semimembranosus.
- Below and lateral: lateral head of gastrocnemius
- Below and medial: medial head of gastrocnemius.
