MMB [020] Forearm & Wrist joints Flashcards
How are the Muscles of front of forearm arranged ?
• a superficial group formed of 5 muscles
• deep group formed of 3 muscles
what does this symbol indicate ?
And what is the relation of this structure to the superficial forearm’s front muscles ?
All front forearm Superficial Muscles arise from common flexor origin
Two points that almost all Superficial Muscles of the front forearm have in common ?
• All arise from common flexor origin
• Common nerve supply (MEDIAN N.)
except Flexor Carpi Ulnaris
Nerve supply of the front forearm superficial muscles ?
- All from MEDIAN Nerve , except Flexor Carpi Ulnaris
Front forearm Superficial Muscles that have extra origin than the CFO ?
- Pronator teres
- Flexor digitorum Superficialis
- Flexor Carpi Ulnaris
Forearm muscles that cause Ulnar deviation ?
- Flexor carpi ulnaris
- Extensor carpi ulnaris
Forearm muscles that cause radial deviation ?
- Flexor carpi radialis
- Extensor carpi radialis
name the muscle and it’s origins
Pronator teres ;
1.Humeral head: Common flexor origin (CFO).
- Ulnar head: from the coronoid process of ulna.
name the muscle and it’s insertion
Pronator teres ;
-Inserted in lateral surface of the radial shaft
Name the muscle , it’s origin and insertion
• Flexor Carpi Radialis (FCR) :
-Origin: CFO.
-Insertion: into the bases of the 2nd and 3rd metacarpal bone.
Name the muscle , it’s origin and insertion
• Palmaris Longus (PL) ;
-Origin:
1. CFO.
Insertion:
1.Distal part of flexor retinaculum.
2.Apex of palmar aponeurosis
Name the muscle , it’s origin and insertion
• Flexor Carpi Ulnaris (FCU) :
-Origin: CFO. and posterior border of ulna
-Insertion:
into the pisiform bone. The tendon is then prolonged to the hook of hamate and base of 5 th metacarpal bone .
Name the muscle , it’s origin and insertion
Flexor digitorum Superficialis :
-Origin:
1. CFO
2. coronoid process of ulna.
3. anterior oblique line of radius
-Insertion:
• By four tendons for the medial four fingers to be inserted into the sides of the shaft of the middle phalanx.
Deep Group muscles of the front forearm ?
➢ Flexor digitorum PROFUNDUS
➢ Flexor Pollicis Longus
➢ Pronator Quadratus
Nerve supply of the Deep Group muscles of front forearm ?
• Common nerve supply: the anterior interosseous branch of median nerve EXCEPT medial half of flexor digitorum profundus (FDP) which is supplied by ulnar nerve.
Branch of median nerve that supplies deep muscles of the front forearm ?
anterior interosseous branch of median nerve
Origin of Flexor digitorum PROFUNDUS ?
- Upper ¾ of anterior and medial surfaces of shaft of ulnar.
- Medial half of anterior surface of interosseous membrane.
Insertion of Flexor digitorum PROFUNDUS ?
• By four tendons for the medial four fingers
• passes between the two slips of the corresponding tendon of FDS to be inserted into the base of the terminal phalanx.
Origin of Flexor Pollicis Longus ?
- Upper two thirds of anterior surface of the shaft of radius
- interosseous membrane
Insertion of Flexor Pollicis Longus ?
By a tendon which passes below the flexor retinaculum to be inserted into the distal phalanx of the thumb.
Name the muscle , it’s origin and insertion
Pronator Quadratus ;
A. Origin:
-from the lower quarter of the shaft of ulna.
B. Insertion:
-into the lower quarter of the shaft of radius.
Type of WRIST JOINTs ?
Does the Ulna share in the wrist joint ?
NO ;
-separated from the carpal bones by the triangular articular disc
A fractured scaphoid is more common in ……(age group)
younger
Is the range of adduction of the hand at the wrist greater or lesser than the range of abduction and WHY???
