MMB [028] Movements & muscles of the Hand II Flashcards
Nerves of palm of the hand ?
I. Median Nerve
II. Ulnar Nerve
III. Radial nerve
The Median Nerve’s passage in the hand ?
➢ passes deep to the flexor retinaculum through the carpal tunnel.
How does the median nerve terminate in the palm ?
➢It ends by dividing into medial & lateral divisions.
Motor supply : of the median nerve to the palm ?
Motor fibers to 5 muscles:
-3 muscles of thenar eminence ;
+ 1st & 2nd lumbricals
Sensory supply : of the median nerve to the palm ?
palmar surface of the lateral 3½ fingers and the dorsum of their terminal
Passage of the : Ulnar Nerve into the palm ?
It enters the palm Superficial to the flexor retinaculum
Most important nerve in the hand ??
II. Ulnar Nerve
How does the ulnar nerve terminate : in the palm ?
It ends by dividing into superficial & deep terminal branches
Motor supply of the : Ulnar nerve to the palm ?
Detailing the supply of each branch
Motor fibers to 15 muscles :
✓ 1 by superficial branch ; palmaris brevis
✓ 14 by deep branch.
Palm muscles supplied by the superficial branch ; of the Ulnar nerve ?
palmaris brevis
Palm muscles supplied by the deep branch ; of the Ulnar nerve ?
▪ Adductor pollicis.
▪ hypothenar eminence
▪ Medial 2 lumbricals (L3 & L4).
▪ All interosseii (palmar & dorsal).
Sensory supply : of the Ulnar nerve to the hand ?
-palmar surface of the medial 1½ fingers ;
-and the dorsum of their terminal & middle phalanges
Radial nerve supply to the hand ?
Arteries of palm of the hand ?
the superficial & deep palmar arches
