MMB [020] Forearm I Flashcards
Mention the two subgroups ,, of anterior forarm muscles
Muscles of front of forearm are arranged into ;
- a superficial group formed of 5 muscles
- & a deep group formed of 3 muscles
Superficial group of anterior forarm muscles is formed of ….. muscles
Five
Deep group of anterior forarm muscles is formed of ….. muscles
Three
Mention the five superfical ,, anterior forarm muscles
Name the muscle ,, and mention it’s origin(s) and insertions
Action of Pronator Teres ?
Pronation of forearm
……. nerve , leaves cubital fossa to enter forearm between : the 2 heads of pronator teres
The Median nerve
Mention origin ,, and insertion of Flexor carpi radialis
What’s the action of ; Flexor carpi radialis
- Flexion of wrist
- With extensor carpi radialis longus & brevis → abduct the hand.
An anterior forarm muscle that might be absent ?
Palmaris Longus (may be absent )
Name the muscle , and it’s insertion (s)
Flexor digitorum superficialis
Insertion :
• By 4 tendons for the medial 4 fingers
Action of Flexor digitorum superficialis ?
flexion of proximal interphalangeal & metacarpo phalangeal joints of the medial 4 fingers
Name the muscle ,, and it’s insertion
Flexor carpi ulnaris
Insertion : 5 th metacarpal
Action of Flexor carpi ulnaris ?
- Flexion of wrist joint
- With extensor carpi ulnaris, it adducts hand
Name the muscle and it’s insertion
Flexor pollicis longus
Insertion :
-terminal phalanx of thumb
Name the muscle and it’s insertion
Flexor digitorum profundus
Insertion:
4 tendons → terminal phalanges of medial 4 fingers
Action of Flexor digitorum profundus ?
- Flexion of distal phalanges of medial 4 fingers
- Helps in flexion of middle & proximal phalanges of medial 4 fingers
- Helps in flexion of wrist
Name the muscle and it’s insertion
Pronator Quadratus
Insertion : anterior surface of radius
All superficial muscles of front of forearm are supplied by …… nerve, except FLEXOR carpi ulnaris by ….. nerve
Median nerve , Ulnar nerve
All superficial muscles of front of forearm are supplied by ….. nerve, except…… muscle by ulnar nerve
Median nerve , FLEXOR carpi ulnaris
All Deep Muscles Of Front Of Forearm Are Supplied By…… Nerve, Except Medial ½ Of Flexor Digitorum Profundus By….
Anterior Interosseous nerve ,, Ulnar Nerve
The ulnar nerve supplies …. Muscle(s) of the forearm
FLEXOR carpi ulnaris ,, and Medial ½ Of Flexor Digitorum Profundus
BEGINNING OF RADIAL ARTERY ?
- A branch of the Braichial artery
- At level of neck of the radius in cubital fossa
END OF RADIAL ARTERY ?
Continues as deep palmar arch
Where to feel the radial pulse ?
BEGINNING OF ULNAR ARTERY ?
• Opposite neck of radius
• Larger terminal branch of brachial artery
END OF ULNAR ARTERY ?
• Divides into 2 terminal branches; superficial and deep.
Root values of Median nerve ?
C5,6,7,8,T1
How does the Median Nerve arise from the brachial plexus ?
It arises by two roots:
-lateral root from lateral cord
and
-medial root from medial cord.
Name the nerve and explain it’s course
MEDIAN NERVE ;
- Arises by lateral root from lateral cord ,,, and medial root from medial cord
-leaves cubital fossa to enter forearm between the 2 heads of pronator teres
The….. nerve supplies the lateral ½ of the flexor digitorum profundus ,flexor policis longus and pronator quadratus.
anterior interosseous nerve
The….. branch of Median nerve supplies the sensory lateral 2/3 of the palm
Palmar cutaneous
The…. branch of Median nerve : arises above the flexor retinaculum
Palmar cutaneous branch
Causes of : Carpal Tunnel Syndrome ?
Compression of the median nerve within the carpal tunnel
General Clinical features of : Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) ?
-numbness
-tingling
-and pain in the distribution of the median nerve
Root value and roots of Ulnar nerve ?
—Root value is C7,8,T1.
— It arises from the medial cord of the brachial plexus .
Course of Ulnar nerve ?
—Passes behind medial epicondyle
—It enters the forearm by passing between the two heads of the flexor carpi ulnaris
Near the wrist ,the ulnar nerve become superficial and pass superficial to the….(ct structure)
flexor retinaculum
The muscular branches of Ulnar nerve ?
Two muscular branches :
-to flexor carpi ulnaris
-and medial ½ of the flexor digitorum profundus.
The cutaneous branches of Ulnar nerve ?
Two cutaneous branches:
— supply medial 1/3 of the palm of the hand .
— & medial 1/3 of the dorsum of the hand
— and dorsum of the medial one and half fingers
Name the condition ?
Extension- compression fracture of distal radius
Colles fracture ?
Distal fracture of the radius in the forearm with dorsal (posterior) displacement of the wrist and hand
Smiths fracture ?
• The distal fracture fragment is displaced ventrally, as opposed to a Colles’ fracture which the fragment is displaced dorsally.
