module 4 unit D&E Flashcards
Drugs for heart failure
Diuretics ACE Inhibitors ARBs ARNIs Digoxin Ivabradine Beta blockers
Signs of digoxin toxicity
anorexia, nausea, vomiting, visual changes, arrhythmias
At risk for digoxin toxicity
low body weight, advanced age, renal impaiment, hypokalemia, hypercalcemia, hypomagnesemia
Why avoid NSAIDs in heart failure
they cause sodium retention and vasoconstriction
Four classes of antiarrhythmic drugs
Sodium channel blockers
Beta blockers
calcium channel blockers
potassium channel blockers
widely used potassium channel blocker
Amiodorone (nexterone/pacerone)
BBW for amiodorone
risk of thyroid disorders, pulmonary toxicity, hepatotoxicity, arrhythmias
adverse effects of amiodorone
blue skin, photo sensitivity, corneal deposits, rare optic neuritis
Do not give if patient has had an MI
NSAIDs
What pain med should be prescribed for patient who has had an MI
Low dose aspirin, acetaminophen, tramadol, or opioids if necessary
Foundation pharmacological treatment for angina
Nitrates
Adverse effect of nitroglycerin
Headache, orthostatic hypotension, do not use with ED meds
Long acting nitrate
isosorbide mononitrate
