Q

Name 3 reactions where larger molecules are made from smaller ones

A
  • Glucose molecules join together to make starch, glycogen, cellulose
  • Lipid molecules are each made from 1 molecule of glycerol and 3 fatty acids
  • Glucose is combined with nitrate ions to = amino acids which are made into proteins

Q

Name 2 reactions where larger molecules are broken down to form smaller ones

A
  • Glucose broken down in respiration. Res. transfers energy to power all the reactos in the body that make molecules
  • Excess proteins is broken down in a reaction that produces urea. Urea is excreted in urine

Q

Why do you respire more when you excercise?

A
  • Muscles need energy from respiration to contract
  • Energy comes from increased respiration
  • Breakthing arate and breath volume increaase to get more oxygen into the blood
  • Heart rate increases to get oxygenated blood around body faster - removes CO2 faster
