Q

What 2 things does the stomach do?

A
  1. Produces protease enzyme = pepsin
  2. Produces hydrochloric acid - kills bacteria and to give the right phH for the protease enzymes to work (2 - acidic)

Q

What does the gall bladder do?

A
  • It neutralises acid from the stomach
  • It emulsifies fats it gives a bigger surface area for the enzymes to work on
  • Bile is stored in the gall bladder

Q

Adaptations of villi

A
  • It has villi which increase the surface area so digested food can be absorbed into the blood stream quickly
  • Single layer of surface cells - nutrients have to diffuse a short distance
  • Good blood supply - maintians the concentration graident
