measuring photosynthesis Flashcards
three factors affecting photosynthesis
- temperature
- concentration of carbon dioxide
- light
ways to measure photosynthesis
- measure the decrease in CO2
- measure the increase in O2
- measure the increase in glucose
describe a method of measuring photosynthesis
An inverted measuring cylinder can be used to collect the bubbles of oxygen and measure the volume
Light
Is important as it provides the energy needed to break water molecules. As the intensity of the light increases, so does the rate of photosynthesis. After a certain point the rate plateaus as no additional energy can be absorbed.
Temperature
Temperature will affect photosynthesis process is heavily mediated by enzymes. As temperature increases, more collisions occur and so the reaction takes place faster. If the temperature gets too high, the enzymes denature.
concentration of CO2
As the concentration of CO2 increases, the number of collisions increases and so the rate of photosynthesis increases. The rate plateaus as the enzymes became saturated.
