How long should you exclusively breast feed?

Breast milk is the best source of nutrition for most babies

Babies who are breastfed have a lower risk of:
* Asthma
* Diabetes (type 2)
* Eczema
* GI infections

* SIDS
mothers who breast feed their babies have a lower risk of
* breast and ovarian cancers
* Diabetes
* High BP
NOTE: babies will gradually drink more at each feeding (which will change the chemicals in the breast milk)
Time between feedings gets longer-average = 2-4 hours for must exclusively breast fed babies
May be often as every hour = cluster feeding
* this tells moms body to put more fat etc.. in the breast milk
Sleep interval of 4-5 hours to start
Session may be long or short
Should seem content and drowsy after feeding when they have had enough milk
About 8-12 times in 24 hours
babies genreally take what they need at each feeding and stop eating when they are full
Is Toddler milks or formuals indicated for infants
No recommended for infants
Not necessary to meet nutritional needs of older babies ‘
KNOW: at 12 months shouldnt have cows milk, should only have food / formulas
