Leading and Lagging Flashcards
Does DNA have a direction?
DNA has a direction, meaning that bases are added from one end of the chain (moves in 1 direction), because it’s 1 direction it causes problems
SKETCH the leading and lagging strand!

Leading and Lagging step 4
Primase synthesises RNA primer for 5th Okazaki fragment.
Leading and lagging step 5
DNA poll iii completes synthesis for fragment 4. After reaching the RNA primer, DNA pol iii detaches and begins to add nucleotides to the 3’ end of the fragment 5 primer in the replication fork.
Leading and lagging step 6
DNA pol i removes the primer from the 5’ end of fragment 2 replacing it with nucleotides added one by one to the 3’ end of fragment 3. After addition, free 3’ end
Leading and lagging step 7
DNA ligase joins the 3’ end of fragment 2 to the 5’ end of fragment 1.
