What is assisted conception treatment?
any treatment which involved gametes outside the body
What is the limit on alcohol before ACT?
femalres limit to 4 units
What is the weight restrictions for male and females before ACT?
between 19-29
When should folic acid be taken in ACT?
preconception-12 weeks gestation
What are the indications for intrauterine insemination?
generally because unable to have penetrative sex but everything else is okay
How is intrauterine insemination carried out?
prepared semen inserted into uterine cavity aroudn time of ovulation
What are the indications for IVF?
unexplained infertility >2 years; pelvic disease; anovulatory infertility (after failed induction); male factor infertility ; pre-implantation genetic diagnosis
What drug is given during IVF?
GnRH analogues
What are the SE of GnRH analogues?
hot flushes and mood swings; nasal irritation; HA
How are the ovaries stimulated during IVF?
gonadotrophin hormone cantaing either synethic or urinary gonadotrophins (FSH +/- LH)
What is the function of hCG injection in IVF?
mimics LH causing resumption of meiosis in oocyte, 36 hours before oocyte recovery
How long should men be abstinent before collection of semen?
72 hours
What is semen assessed for?
volume; density; motility; progression
What are the risks associated with oocyte collection?
bleeding; pelvic infection and failure to obtain oocytes
How many embyros are typically transferred?
