HIV: treatment and care Flashcards
What treatment should be given for rectal chlamydia?
doxycycline better for rectal chlamydai than azithromycin
How are targets for anti-retrovirals created?
identify processes that dont happen in normal human cells but do in infected cells
What are the targets for anti-retroviral drugs?
reverse transcriptase; integrase; protease; entry-fusion; CCR5 receptor; maturation
What is highly active anti-retroviral therapy?
a combination of three drugs from at least 2 drug calsses to which the virus is susceptible
What are the purposes of highly active anti-retroviral therapy?
reduce viral load to undetectable; restore immunocompetence; reduce morbidity and mortality; minimise toxicity
What ar ethe side effects of HAART?
rash; hypersensitivity; SJS; mood; psychosis; sleep disturbance; proximal renal tubulopatheis; osteomalacia; increased MI rsk ;anaemia; transaminitis; fulminant hepatitis
Why is adherence so important in HAART?
reverse transcriptase results in lots of errers which gives lots of mutations for resistance to occur which will be in your genome forever once they occur
How do protease inhibitiors affect liver enxymes?
potenet liver enzyme inhibitiros
How do NNRTIs affect liver enzymes?
potenet liver enyme inducers
What is the treatment for prevention of mother to child transmission?
HAART furing pregnancy; CS-detected viral load; VD-undetected; 4/52 PEP for neonate; exclusive formula feeding
