cause
EBV( HH4) is the main cause but other viruses can cause
hepatitis
adenovirus
HIV
MOA
body secretions mainly saliva- sharing cups etc but other body fluids too like seman, blood
epi
15-25 year olds, (where we mostly observe active infection ) young kids usually asymptomatic/mild approximately 90% adults are sero+
main symptoms
fever, pharygitis ,tonsilitis (can make it heard to breathe) lympadenopathy, (cervical) hepatospelonemgaly
IP
4- 6 weeks or 1/2 months
tx
usually supportive - because its self limiting so fluids, rehydration !
as the spleen can grow very large avoid physical activity for 3 weeks after
complications
rupture spleen
aplastic anemia
increased risk of H lymphoma
diagnosis
serology ‘heterophile ab’
atypical lymphocytes- the nucleus and a lot of cytoplasm
liver enzymes-exclude liver involvement
key target of infection
b lymphocytes
whats not recommed to give to mono
penicillin because it leads to a rash
