medial and lateral digital arteries
branches of the terminal arch exit the parietal cortex via

the parietal surface has ridges for the
suspensory apparatus of distal phalanx (SADP) attachment
ridges are true periosteum
superficial digital flexor
branches into 2
-insert on distal extremity of proximal phalanx and proximal extremity of middle phalanx palmar to the collateral ligaments of proximal interphalangeal joint
deep digital flexor
-descends between the 2 branches of superficial digital flexor
-insert on semilunar flexor surface of distal phalanx beneath the navicular impar ligament
*common digital extensor
-inserts partially on proximal and middle phalanges and finally on broad extensive process of distal phalanx
lateral digital extensor
inserts on lateral proximal phalanx
dorsal extensor branch of suspensory ligament merge dorsally into
extensor tendons.

SADP origin
dense reticular network of collagen bundles (stratum reticulare) embedded in the parietal cortex of the distal phalanx
the bundles cross the sublamellar dermis are
at angles aligned with strain
SADP inserts as fine collagenous filaments into the
lamellar basement membrane
SADP function
acts to enable hoof wall to bear weight by redirecting forces from distal phalanx to hoof wall
Laminitis dysfunction of
suspensory apparatus of distal phalanx
the production of tubular horn of the periople, hoof wall and bars, white line, sole and frog is
constant as foal grows
mitosis is equally frequent in lamellar sections but only in
short proximal zone, on the inner shoulders of the coronary groove
in the adult horse, mitosis in the form of mitotic figures is observed in
section of tubular horn tissue
