Q

palmar apenorosis description

A

The palmar aponeurosis is triangular deep fascia occupies the central area of the palm its apex is attached to the flexor retinaculum .

The function of the palmar aponeurosis is to give firm
attachment to the overlying skin and so improve the grip
and to protect the underlying tendons.

It gives fibrous septa pass posteriorly into the palm and take part in the formation of the palmar fascial spaces:
Lateral (thenar) ,medial(hypothenar) and central .

Q

the group of hand muscles

A

So that muscles of the hand are arranged into four groups:
Thenar muscles (lateral) compartment;
Adductor pollicis muscle.
Hypothenar muscles (medial) compartment.
Small muscles of the hand (four lumbricals and the 8 interossei between the metacarpals).
They are all supplied by the ulnar nerve except the thenar muscles and the first (lateral) two lumbricals, which are supplied by the median nerve.

Q

laterall compartment of the hand

A

A. Abductor pollicis brevis: It abducts thumb at carpometacarpal joint

b. Flexor pollicis longus: It flexes thumb at carpometacarpal and metacarpophalangeal joints

c. Opponens pollicis: It moves the thumb across palm to meet little finger (opposition) at the carpo-metacarpal joint .

Nerve supply : median nerve

Q

adductor pollicis longus origin inseertion nerve action

A

Adductor pollicis
Origin : has two heads;Oblique head and transverse head from the 2nd and 3rd metacarpals
Insertion: base of the proximal phalanx of thumb
Nerve : ulnar nerve
