What is the clinical level for Glucose Gel?

What is the classification of Glucose Gel?
Nutrients. Sugars: Antihypoglycaemic.
What is the presentation of Glucose Gel?
Glucose gel in a tube or sachet.
How is Glucose Gel administered?
Buccal administration: Administer gel to the inside of the patient’s cheek and gently massage the outside of the cheek.
What are the indications for Glucose Gel?
Hypoglycaemia. Blood glucose < 4 mmol/L.
What are the contraindications for Glucose Gel?
Known severe adverse reaction.
What are the usual dosages for adults using Glucose Gel?
10 - 20 g buccal (Recheck blood glucose and repeat after 15 min if required).
What are the usual dosages for paediatric patients using Glucose Gel?
New-born neonate: 2-4 mL if blood glucose ≤ 2.6 mmol/L.
5 - 10 g buccal (recheck blood glucose and repeat after 15 mins if required) for patients ≤ 8 years.
10 - 20 g buccal (recheck blood glucose and repeat after 15 mins if required) for patients > 8 years.
What side effects may occur with Glucose Gel?
May cause vomiting in patients under the age of 5 years if administered too quickly.
What additional information is there regarding Glucose Gel?
Glucose gel will maintain glucose levels once raised but should be used secondary to Dextrose to reverse hypoglycaemia.
Proceed with caution: Patients with airway compromise. Altered level of consciousness.
