Feedwater Pump Turbine Flashcards
What does the Lead Drain Line do ?
Lead Drain Valve drains condensate when stop valve is closed to prevent slug of water hitting turbine when stop valve is opened
What do the Stop Valve Seat Drain Lines do ?
Each HP & LP Stop Valves contain Above Seat Drain Line to allow drainage
When are the Drain Valves operated from ? What is position of valves during full steam load operation ?
-Each drain line contains drain valve operated from Control Room
-Drain valves normally closed during full steam load
What do the lead drain valves bypass lines do ?
Bypass lines bypasses lead drain valves continuously drains through orifice to prevent buildup when Lead Drain Valves are closed
What do the HP Stop Valves & LP Stop Valves do?
-Open to allow steam to turn Turbine
-Quickly close upon MFWP Turbine trip to stop steam flow into turbine
How are both HP & LP Stop Valves operated ?
Hydraulically operated from 200psig Feedwater Pump/Turbine Lube Oil system
How do the HP & LP Stop Valves open ?
-Hydraulic piston opens pilot poppet against steam inlet pressure, but isn’t enough pressure to open main valve
-Control Valve must be closed to buildup enough pressure to open Main Valve
How are Stop Valve testing work ?
-Each stop valve has relay connected to port which can be opened to drain operating cylinder with tripping it
-When hydraulic oil is drained operating cylinder goes to close direction until port is closed
-Once port is close hydraulic pressure will build up
Since HP stop valves go fully closed during testing, when should can they be tested ?
HP Stop Valves can only be tested when MFWP Turbine is operating on LP steam & HP Control Valve is closed
What interlock prevents HP stop valve from testing ?
Interlock prevents testing of HP Stop Valve if HP Control Valve is open
Why is there a local green indicating light ?
Green light is to indicate that HP Control Valve is closed
Where can this HP Stop Valve testing be performed from ?
-Can be performed by Pushbutton locally at valve or from control room
-It’s normally done from control room
Whatre the 2 reasons the LP Stop Valve goes open partially during testing during normal operation?
-If LP Stop & Control valves goes closed and it’s main driver for MFWP Turbine it’ll slow down MFWP
-If Stop Fully Closes with control valve open, the stop valve won’t be able to reopen
Where is the LP Stop Valve Test performed from ?
Performed from control room
What is normal operation of the HP & LP Stop Valves ?
Both HP & LP Stop Valves are open during startup & through speed range of MFWP
What happens to the Stop Valve & Control Valves during a MFWP Turbine trip ?
-Trip signal dumps oil pressure holding Stop & Control Valves open, which will close them
What happens to Stop Valves on a reset of trip signal ?
With control valve closed this results in Stop Valve fully opening upon reset of trip signal
What do the HP & LP Control Valves do ?
Allows control of steam admitted to Feedwater Pump Turbine to control speed of Feedwater Pump
What operates both the HP & LP Control Valves ?
They’re hydraulically operated by 200psig Feedwater Pump/Turbine Lube Oil
How does each LP Control Valve work in the inside the valve chest cover?
-Lift beam lifts five LP Control Valves in sequence to control LP steam into turbine
What happens when steam flow throw LP Control Valve is insufficient ?
If steam flow is insufficient for required Feedwater Pump Speed then lift beam will continue to rise until it opens HP Control Valve
What signals control the LP Control Valve assemblies open/close ?
Receive signals from electronic Governor which responds to inputs from Feedwater Control system based on desired MFWP speed for SG Water level
How do the LP & HP Control Valve assemblies work during MFWP Turbine?
1.)LP control valves supplies steam to start spinning turbine, but doesn’t have enough hot reheat steam to get turbine up to speed
2.)As LP Control Valve continues to open, it’ll start lifting HP Control Valve letting steam from Main Steam
3.)As hot reheat steam increases LP Steam will be able to drive turbine, LP Control Valve will start closing HP Control Valve
How is steam supplied to MFWP Turbine during normal operation ?
-LP Control Valves are throttled to admit Hot Reheat steam to ‘D’ MSR as main driver for Turbine
-Main Steam is not needed during normal operation
What system normally controls the turbine speed?
-Normally controlled from Digital Feedwater Control System
-Can be manually control from control room
Where is turbine speed for startup overspeed testing controlled from ?
Controlled by an AO from a panel in the Subsynchrnous Resonance Room(SSR)
