  • Acute: (single exposure, dryness, erythema or edema)
  • Chronic: (continuous exposure can last years, scales, fissures, vesicles)
  • chemical burn: (deep necrosis)

  • applying antipuritic cream

  • extreme cases can be tx with wet dressings, oral antihistamines & systemic corticosteriods

-itchy inflammatory skin with erythme, edema, vesicles & weeping leading to skin thickening. the link to type 1 hypersensitivity is hard to link & eczema is now believed to be a skin disease that predisposes people to allergies

treatment of Atopic Eczema

A
  • focused on targeting dryness, pruitis, infection & inflammation by optimal skin care, skin barrier cream, avoiding irritants & foods that cause symptoms. Decrease contact with water.
  • topical corticosteriods treat flare ups
  • Topical immune modulators having positive results & are side effect free, better option than topical corticosteriod
  • wrap therapy & intake of probiotics found to have a treatment effect

Nummular Eczema

A

is coin shaped rashes& predominately affects the arms & legs. Secondary infections are common.

  • this type of eczema is chronic with weeks to years between outbreaks more frequently occurring in winter months.
  • Cause is unknown history of allergy related disorders & presence of staph colonization at the lesion site
