Palmar
The back or under surface of the front foot
Plantar
The back or underside of the back foot
Rostral
Towards the nose
Proximal
Applies to limbs near the body
Distal
Applied to limbs near the toes (away from the body)
Superficial
Near the outside of the animal
Deep
Near the centre of the animal
Median plane
A line which divides the body into right and left halves can be described as the line down the middle of the animal from nose to tail
Mid-Sagittal plane
A line which divides the body into right and left halves
Sagittal plane
Any line parallel to the median plane
Paramedian plane
Any line parallel to the medial plane
Dorsal plane
Parallel to training back of the animal
Transverse plane
Perpendicular to the long axis of the animal
