Decision making Flashcards
why is a pilot better than a machine
pilot can always adapt to a situation using knowledge and experience creativity
when facing a problem, a pilot should take or not take his time to solve a problem?
should take his time to analyze the situation
even in emergency, the crew usually has more time than they think
the main error of a pilot’s decision making mechanism is
**determination of the situational risk or hazard
**
which depend on:
experience
mood of the person
whether influenced/not influenced by others (risky shift)
during decision making process, the following can be true
- first info received determines subsequent info to be evaluated
- if one has made up ones mind, contradictory info might be ignored (confirmation bias)
- stress can limit hte flow of info to the Central decision making part of the brain
DECIDE Model
Detect
Estimate
Choose
Identify
Do
Evaluate
What is group polisation, conformation and risky shift
Risky shift:
peer pressure and crew making same decisions can increase risk
Conformation
To agree or conform with one decision even if feeling uneasy about it.
Polarisation:
to agree to a voiced opinion or decision to not be ‘different’
what is confirmation bias, attentional bias and routine bias
confirmation bias : when you give undue attention /weight on info that supports current mental model
attentional bias: being bias towards something due to emotional significance (this has nothing to do with attention/attentional fixation)
routine bias - biases due to repeated scenarious
in decisio nmaking, selection of a solution depends on:
objective and subjective criteria
the objective to be achieved
risk assosicated with each solution
