Why was E15 campaign created?
When a group of young mothers were served eviction notices after Newham Labour Council cut its funding to the Mother and Baby Unit in the Focus E15 Foyer hostel for young homeless people.
What did the council suggest the mothers would have to do?
They would have accept private rented accommodation as far away as Manchester, Hastings and Birmingham
What action did the mothers take?
Occupied a disused block of flats to protest against being decanted by Newham Council.

What is the result of regeneration?
People being forced to move out of London due to lack of affordable housing
What did Focus E15 demand?
- Repopulate the Carpenters Estate with secure long term council tenancies now
- An immediate end to the decanting and evictions of existing residents
- No demolition of the estate
- The management of Carpenters Estate by the residents, for the residents, no third party or private management
What did the council promise in 2018?
Any redevelopment would be led by residents and include a minimum of 50% affordable homes
How does the result of the campaign benefit the local residents?
Regeneration is estimated to reach completion in 2033 (10-yr), to avoid unnecessary relocation of residents
Why did the Newham Council allow the occupied flats to continue for the full two weeks with daily events + workshops?
