PRE-COMA STATES
What is the dosage of chlorphenamine for adults?
MILD: 4mg PO
MODERATE: 4mg PO/ 10mg IM
What is the paediatric dosage of chlorphenamine?
MILD:
6-11 2mg PO
+12 4mg PO
MODERATE:
1-6 months 0.25mg/kg IM
+6months -> 6 years 2.5mg IM
6-12 years 2mg PO/ 5mg IM
+12 years 4mg PO/5mg IM
SEVERE:
Same dosages as Moderate except for 12+ which is 10mg IM
What are the side effects of chlorphenamine?
Drowsiness (do not drive/operate machinery)
What conditions must you be cautious of when administering chlorphenamine?
EPILEPSY
PROSTATIC HYPERTROPHY
GLAUCOMA
HEPATIC DISEASE
BRONCHITIS
SEVERE HYPOTENSION
CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE
BRONCHIAL ASTHMA
